Derrick A. Carthon is being held on a $250,000 bond, court records show.
Authorities received six cyber tips from X.com, formerly known as Twitter, related to accounts associated with Carthon, police said. They searched his home on July 23 and seized multiple electronic devices before taking him into custody, according to officials.
Carthon has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug 12.
